The 9th International Conference on Control and Optimization with Industrial Applications

The 9th International Conference on Control and Optimization with Industrial Applications

27-29 August 2024, Istanbul, Türkiye

The 9th International Conference on Control and Optimization with Industrial Applications has been organized with the support of IEEE in partnership with Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa, Ministry of Digital Development and Transport of the Republic of Azerbaijan,  Institute of Applied Mathematics of Baku State University, and Ağrı İbrahim Çeçen University between August 27 and 29, 2024 in a hybrid format in Istanbul, Türkiye. COIA-2024 provided an excellent forum for discussion and exchange of ideas for researchers and academicians in the field of control and optimization from all over the world, and with its respected speakers, leading dedicated scientific journals, and prestigious sponsor organizations.

Such a conference increases the opportunities for knowledge exchange and collaboration by bringing together various experts and researchers on a global scale. The developments in control theory and optimization combine with innovations in industrial applications and to strengthen the bridges between the business world and academia. The discussions and presentations did not cover only theoretical information but also real-world applications, further advancing our knowledge in this field.

The opening ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including Şamil Ayrım, Member of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey; Prof. Erol İnce, Vice-Rector of Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa; Sabiha Gül Doğan, President of Katoder Company; and the co-chairs of the organizing committee – Academician Fikret Aliev and Prof. Ahmet Ocak Akdemir. During the ceremony, Fikret Aliev conveyed a congratulatory message from Mr. Rashad Nabiyev, Minister of Digital Development and Transport of the Republic of Azerbaijan, to the participants.

The scientific program began with a keynote lecture delivered by Prof. Patrizio Colaneri from the Politecnico di Milano (Italy), which was met with great interest by attendees. Following this, the conference continued with both in-person and online sessions.

Held traditionally and lasting for three days, the conference brought together scientists and specialists from around the world in the fields of control and optimization. Discussions focused on various topics including: control theory, optimization, intelligent systems, fuzzy control, computational methods, networks and telecommunications, mathematical modeling and simulation, industrial and economic applications, system identification, and other contemporary directions.

More than 200 mathematicians and experts from over 30 countries participated in the conference, including seven distinguished invited speakers in the fields of control and optimization. Additionally, a delegation of more than 20 representatives from the Institute of Applied Mathematics of Baku State University, led by Academician Fikret Aliev, represented Azerbaijan at a high level.

The COIA conference series has become a well-established and respected international scientific platform, widely recognized by the global academic community. The Organizing and Program Committees included distinguished scientists from over 20 countries. One of the main goals of the event was to strengthen scientific cooperation between institutions and countries and to facilitate the application of new theoretical findings to various industrial fields.

As is well known, optimization and control are among the most advanced and relevant areas of science and technology today. These fields play a crucial role in decision-making processes, solving economic problems, conducting scientific research, designing complex technical systems, and more. There is virtually no domain where these disciplines do not find important applications in industry and economics.

Renowned experts in control and optimization from around the world took part in the conference as invited speakers, including: Enrique Zuazua (Germany), Volker Mehrmann (Germany), Radu-Emil Precup (Romania), Patrizio Colaneri (Italy),  Adil Bagirov (Australia), Tufan Kumbaşar (Turkey), Hasan Demirel (Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus).

At the closing ceremony on August 29, 2024, Professor Ahmet Ocak Akdemir announced that the next COIA conference will be held in 2026. The exact dates and venue for the 10th International Conference on Control and Optimization with Industrial Applications (COIA 2026) will be determined and announced in due course.
